This project entailed designing an exhibition space for Khadi. Khadi is an indigenous cloth, hand-woven and handspun by the artisans of India. Khadi was propagated as a symbol of freedom by Mahatma Gandhi. The idea was to create a space conducive to exhibit this cloth. This project was exhibited in Porbandar, India which is Gandhi’s birthplace. This was a national exhibition cum sale of Khadi held by the Khadi Village Industries and Commission and the Govt of India. This was the theme pavilion of a larger exhibition of Indian handicrafts. The exhibition was held on October 2 - 13, 2002. As a part of the National Institute of Design, we were given the responsibility of collection of data, developing a storyline, developing graphics, and exhibition stands and the look and feel of the theme pavilion for the exhibition. The message of Gandhi was conveyed through various mediums like films, scrolls, graphic collages, panels etc.
